Where leaders start

Growth is outpacing the operating model

The business grew. The way it makes decisions did not, and the strain is showing in delivery.

Growth exposes whatever was informal. Practices that worked at thirty people become bottlenecks at a hundred, and the leadership team spends its time unblocking work rather than directing the business.

An operating model is the system through which a company turns strategy into daily work. It includes how priorities are set, where decisions sit, how teams coordinate, which capabilities the organization holds, and how value reaches the customer.

When growth outpaces that model, adding people often adds coordination cost without adding capacity. Roles overlap, approvals multiply, information moves slowly, and capable teams wait for decisions that used to happen through proximity.

Leadership starts by locating the few constraints causing the most stalled decisions or inconsistent delivery. From there, changes to ownership, structure, cadence, and capability can be sequenced around the strategy.

We start by naming where decisions and work actually move today. Then we help leadership build the operating conditions that allow growth to continue without making the business story less credible or the organization more dependent on a few people.

What it usually looks like
  • Coordination now takes longer than the work

  • New roles were added before ownership was clarified

  • The founders or senior executives are still the fastest path to a decision

  • Customer experience varies as teams create their own ways of working

  • Leadership spends more time unblocking operations than directing growth
